Members of the Industrial Union of Workers (SITT-IWW) across Canada stand in solidarity with all students and workers in Quebec who bravely oppose rising tuition fees, this capitalist offensive against the working class supported by the government in the age of austerity.
By blocking courses and going down often, and sometimes hundreds of thousands, in the streets, the people who are mobilizing in the fight alongside the members of our union who are actively involved show the rest of Canada that direct action can really bear fruit.
SITT claims at the same time that the police stop attacking the independent media in Quebec, particularly Concordia University TV (CUTV). Their work of live video transmission is essential to the democratic changes we encourage.
SITT also calls for provincial government to repeal special law 78 which suspends freedom of expression, freedom of assembly and the right of those who struggle to defend their choices in relation to the future that education in Quebec should have. Government must hear, recognize and respond to the movement's claims, not legislate repressively to end the conflict and restore “social peace” by force.
The Canadian Committee for Regional Organization of SITT (CCOR) encourages members and local branches to donate to student associations, including the Association for Student Union Solidarity (ASSÉ), and independent media, dont CUTV. CORR also invites them to join as much as possible those who defend the picket lines and who mobilize in the streets in solidarity with this fight for the right to education and freedom.
Ultimately, students jointly with workers and professors are building a powerful movement of solidarity that will mark Quebec. This strong union allows us to hope that one day the education system can be controlled by those who work there., study and teach there with the aim of universally promoting social and human development rather than enslaving it to a sinister logic of monetary return which benefits insatiable banks and capitalists of all kinds.

Kingston Compassion Club Society is re-opening after robbery and police closure.
The Kingston Ontario Compassion Club Society (I.W.W Local 610) is re-opening after suffering a robbery and a police closure, as the Kingston Police continue to investigate some of the worker’s involved in the only unionized medical cannabis dispensary in Canada.
The not-for profit Compassion Club (also known as a medical cannabis dispensary), located in the Medical Arts Building at 800 Princess Street was closed after police responded to a robbery call made by the Club on June 19th. Employees called police to the facility after noticing that their online video surveillance feed had been interrupted, leading them to believe a break-in may have been in progress. It is believed that two former staff members of the K.C.C.S worked with a former member to execute said robbery after making false allegations to the police in the hopes of having the Club shut down by law enforcement. Montréal, the 28 June 2010 – La CLAC 2010 dénonce la répression policière d’une ampleur sans précédent au Canada intervenue à Toronto lors du Sommet du G20. À la violence policière s’ajoute l’annonce d’une série de mesures d’austérité économique (réduction de déficits, hausses de taxes, coupes dans les services sociaux), qui constituent autant de violences économiques dirigées contre les populations. Les travailleuses et les travailleurs sont appelés à payer la note pour la dernière crise financière, alors que les banques et le secteur financier, qui en sont les responsables et qui ont bénéficié de 20 000 billion $ en plans de relance, ne se voient imposer aucune nouvelle régulation.
" The 900 arrestations arbitraires et politiques à Toronto sont du jamais vu dans l’histoire du Canada, soit près de trois fois plus qu’en octobre 1970. Les policiers ont violé les droits fondamentaux, détenu des gens durant des heures sans accusations formelles, sans recours à un avocat, sans nourriture et sans eau. Les policiers se sont montrés coupables d’entrée par effraction sans mandat, de profilage, d’intimidation et de harcèlement, de kidnapping, d’usage démesuré de la force sur des manifestantes, des manifestants ainsi que des journalistes. Nous voyons bien qu’État policier et violence économique vont de pair », explique Danie Royer, coporte-parole de la CLAC2010.
« Chaque jour, worldwide, des gens meurent des conséquences directes des politiques sociales et économiques mises de l’avant par les élites regroupées dans cette instance illégitime qu’est le G20. Les réductions de déficit fièrement annoncées ne feront qu’empirer les conditions de vie de millions de personnes. Stephen Harper a d’ailleurs rappelé que l’objectif visé était de contenter et de rassurer les marchés financiers. Rien sur l’environnement, des miettes pour la santé des femmes, rien sur les conséquences sociales de la crise économique, dont les personnes migrantes sont les premières victimes. Tout pour consolider le capitalisme, un système économique qui privilégie une infime minorité au détriment de l’immense majorité », s’indigne Mathieu Francoeur, coporte-parole de la CLAC2010.
Ce dont nous avons été témoins à Toronto visait à faire taire la dissidence et à criminaliser les mouvements sociaux. Ce sont des tactiques bien connues pour diviser les populations, briser la résistance et imposer des politiques régressives. Nous avons franchi une nouvelle étape dans l’intensification de la répression policière et dans les concessions exigées des populations.
Nous appelons l’ensemble des mouvements sociaux à se mobiliser en solidarité avec les victimes de l’appareil répressif, qui n’ont fait qu’exprimer leur désaccord avec des politiques autoritaires, sécuritaires, racistes et antisociales.
