WE will not let ourselves poorer without flinching

Governments succeed and resemble each other; they impoverish the employees, cut among the less fortunate, attack women and damage social safety net, while their finance and business buddies get fat and profit with impunity.

The Union of Community Workers is in solidarity with social assistance recipients who are suffering the effects of austerity, while the upper class is granted the good graces of an accomplice and corrupt state. We are outraged to see a rich society like ours treat its people with so little consideration. These cuts must stop!

The first of May, the minimum wage will increase to 10,75$ /h; we, the Union of Community Workers (SITT-IWW Montreal), rather see it as a bad joke. Is it necessary to remember that at this salary, meeting basic needs automatically involves sacrifices and painful choices?

It is in this spirit that we are demanding an increase in the minimum conditions for all salaried workers., is 15$ /h, 5 week holiday and 7 paid sick days. Because if the salary is an important issue, access to a decent quality of life inevitably requires time for yourself and your loved ones, as well as the possibility of staying at home when sick.

Consequently, tonight, several constituency offices were decorated with posters, to emphasize the elected provincial-e-s that we not let ourselves be poorer without flinching, and to call the people to demonstrate his displeasure by taking the street on May 1.

In solidarity with all the workers and all working, the unemployed, the undocumented and the social workers.
