union proposal for a solidarity community

The community is attacking the chin. Either in our own bodies and our allies, we almost everyone knows people who have lost access to certain resources, a person whose position has been cut or threatened closure agencies. And this, in all sectors of the community..

Must say, the agencies financing system is so complex. Groups must grapple with the towering bureaucracies of various government funding programs (federal, We provincial municipal). Public funding is no longer sufficient for many years, and many groups have no other choice but to turn to private foundations. They also pose directives that do not always fit the requirements of government funding. Increasingly donors (private or public) simply ignore the mission of community organizations by imposing a funding program leading to an increasingly demanding accountability.

Describe in detail the attacks of neoliberal policies, or capitalists, and their devastating impact on the community would be a waste of time : if you get involved there, remunerated or non, you live them daily.

The medium therefore mobilizes, but quickly stumbles to a problem : given the diversity of donors, types of grants and political actors involved, who are we targeting?

The debate is not new and effortless solutions, he does not exist. This sad fact finding, remains the eternal question : what to do?

We, the Union of Workers of the Community (SITT-IWW Montreal), recognize this issue as the heart of our struggle and offer a space for reflection, coordination, Solidarity and Action!

From the outset, we do not design our workplaces as being separated from each other, but rather like the links of an industry. In the sense that we work everyone in the same field; as the respect of our core missions and our respective working conditions are related. All and all in the same boat.

If a street work station is cut, if a prevention body, lodging or rights defense firm, whether an aid resource by and for losing its grant, if a community clinic loses its separate status, if a youth loses his caregivers, if instead of user-era-s is relegated to being mere recipients, ... if we lose everyone. As employee or user-s-s-st.

We propose to get together and organize ourselves severally, without limit in our workplaces, but as workers of the Community, volunteers and user-era-s. So we do not expect our turn to pass chopper to mobilize. In Group, if the attacks come from several fronts, we can fight simultaneously. Mobilize as workers, volunteers and user-era-s against financing program, and not systematically as organizations. Just as we can protect ourselves and the influences of the business model on the management of our agencies, as an "industry" in advocating more solidarity and self-management values.

The community is from the imagination, Solidarity, self-management will and the desire to fight people. To help and to help others. Our union workers and community workers (IWW Montréal) you therefore offers the same tools : l’imagination, self-management, the struggle and solidarity!
