1er May : five continents, one working class, the same struggle

In Germany, May 1 falls on the eve of the first series of warning strikes in the metal industry for 6,5% wage increase and the end of discrimination against agency workers. Same thing in Morocco where workers will march for freedom of association and against attacks on the right to strike, or, two days after May 1st, there is talk of the start of a strike in the public service.

In Spain, le 1er Mai 2012 is part of the general strike of the 29 mars, against the new labor law which facilitates dismissals, unemployment and austerity measures. In Czech republic, more than 80.000 people demonstrated the 21 April in Prague against austerity measures. Struggles against budget cuts in Britain in fight to preserve the index in Belgium, without forgetting the revolts of the Greek population, it's the same slogan that crosses Europe and beyond the world : we refuse to pay the crisis and the debts of the capitalists.

Outside the European Union, these are the same attacks on workers and the population, as in Canada, where the Quebec government wants to forcefully impose a considerable increase in tuition fees on students. In Turkey, de la Place Taksim d’Istanbul to other cities in the country, workers will demonstrate May 1st against anti-worker policies of AKP government, attacks on the right to strike, the generalization of precarious work and the deterioration of working conditions. Consequence of these degradations, we counted, of 1 January 15 april 2012, 212 dead workers following work accidents.

A Manila, on s’attend, in a context where workers' struggles are multiplying, peasants and government officials from the Philippines face rising prices, to a historic event for this May 1st 2012. In Indonesia, the government has already mobilized more than 16.000 cops and soldiers to face a demonstration that should bring together at least 65.000 workers in Jakarta estimated.

At Venezuela, after the joke, heavily publicized, of the wage increase granted by Chavez and which only corresponds to the level of inflation, our comrades will demonstrate this May 1st for a real increase in wages, the introduction of a minimum wage and against the confiscation of social benefits.

Multiplication of strikes in China to the general strike of 27 March in Burundi, from the struggle of the Argentinian dockers to that of Auckland, there is not a region in the world where workers do not raise their heads in the face of attacks by the bourgeoisie.

And that, even if the workers have to face the most violent repression as in Kazakhstan faces oil workers, in Brazil against the people of Pinheirinho, an Iran, in Bahrain and elsewhere where so many labor activists are imprisoned. Despite the prohibition by dictatorships, demonstrations will take place in Iran or Swaziland for this May Day 2012.
