– The 2 February, the Canadian Teachers' Federation released a letter to International Trade Minister Chrystia Freeland. This letter outlines the Federation's concerns about the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement for Quality Education. “The Agreement contains a chapter on cross-border trade in services which, if it were applied without restriction to education and other public services, would have the effect of definitively endorsing certain measures likely to intensify the privatization and commercialization of education without any possibility of turning back.”

– In Karachi Pakistan, two demonstrators taking part in a demonstration denouncing the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines, died and eight others were injured in clashes with police and paramilitaries on Tuesday 2 February. Law enforcement used gas, water cannons and charges to prevent the protest from entering the airport. in solidarity, company employees stop working and the Pakistan Air Line Pilots Association has joined the strike movement.

– According to the International Airline Pilots Association, 96% of the 524 Air Transat pilots voted and 97% of participants are in favor of holding a strike. It's been a year since negotiations started.. The management party wants to deteriorate working conditions and the concerns of the pilots are not taken seriously according to the Association. The strike could start on 28 February.

– Protests against CPE cuts continue across Quebec with demonstrations planned for Sunday 7 February to denounce the cuts of 120 millions. The President of the Association warns that these are between 2000 and 2500 jobs that are threatened by the cuts.

– Workers at the Lafarge Cement Plant in Saint-Constant have been on strike since Saturday 6 February. The 68 members of the Steelworkers union want above all to defend their pension plan, the most contentious point in contract negotiations, the last one ending on 30 September 2015.

Last summer, Anja, IWW member since Minneapolis, lost his job at the daycare
Crocus Hill Academy St-Paul have Minnesota. The organization of training 101: tools, practical solidarity!

The Training Organization 101 (FO101 or OT101 English) is a two-day activity to provide members and members of the ISTC-futur.es IWW skills in order to engage in the organization of their workplace. Driven by the will to make all the workers in their own right leaders in the construction of a new model of unionism linked to the struggle for the abolition of wage labor, the FO101 is recognized today as one of the main causes of the resurgence experienced by the Union for all and for all since the early 2000.

The 16 and 17 January, Montrealer of the Local IWW-organized its SITT 5e formation by combining 21 Wobblies from Montreal, Quebec and Drummondville. Today we present the testimony of two participants who wanted to share their experience.

Following my first time at the OT-101 IWW Montreal training, I would like to share my experience with others interested or reluctant to attend training. First, I am a member of the IWW division Quebec for only a few months, This does not prevent me from having the conviction that reform of powers must be made both in society and in the workplace. In fact, as soon as I knew the Union, I wanted to invest in me to share my ideas and ideals with people who have the same thought process as me.

So, when I arrived for training, I was warmly welcomed and severally by the members of Montreal. In terms of training, it allowed me to put words and processes the changes I want to make about me. I already had several ideas, but I did not know the steps to follow. I also had a conception of the Union which is clarified through my participation in this training. I came away equipped and boosted me to invest more. What I liked most of this training is not, however, the theoretical aspect, but the solidarity that follows. Knowing that I'm not alone, others are fighting with me for the common interests and shared, is the central element that made me grow up during this training.

Finally, thumbs up to the trainer and the trainer that without this training would clearly not be as interesting. I advise all people who have a desire to change things, but do not know where to start or who to turn to register and follow as soon as possible !!

It's been a little bit that I am carrying a red card. I take some work and I go to social activities of the union from time to time, but it's really the Organization Training 101 that made me fully understand what it was like to be a wobbly, what it meant to wear this little red card.

Many things I have learned over the years on the broad mobilization issues have suddenly been ordered and delivered in the context of the union. It allowed me to put a structure on things I had learned through practice as an activist and expand this knowledge and practices. We learned and practiced full of useful tips and tricks to organize. One could ask any questions we thought. People who gave training knew their subject, but also left room for group discussions. It was informative, participatory and it was very appropriate to have the chance to hear the other people attending the training talk about their experiences. It made me know the reality of many other sectors of the working world that I did not know and it gave us the chance to know us and us to work together.

The training helped me understand the organization of a workplace is a process that can start anytime, in any workplace and that even if the purpose is to have organizing committees of our workplaces, an essential part of the union is to build solidarity. Build solidarity is a major reason why I joined the union and find that any organization is based on solidarity, compared to what I experienced in other unions, it is exactly the look why I joined the IWW.

This training has given me the tools to make the union in any medium, at the same time it made me build relationships based on our experiences working with the FW who took the same time training me. It was an intense week end of practical learning which required a lot of concentration, but it was also a weekend exchange, emotions and laughter. I feel better equipped to organize myself with colleagues, but I also feel a lot better understand what it is like to be part of the IWW.

Call Forum 15-5-7

Industrial Union of Workers – IWW Montreal invites you to participate in a public forum addressing the struggle for a minimum wage 15$ /h, 5 week vacation and 7 paid sick days per year.

This will take place the 12 February 2016 the Popular Education Center in Little Burgundy and St. Henri, the 2515 Delisle, 18:00.

This forum will offer a panel where several people present different facets of this struggle, is the economic aspect, the experience of a worker at minimum wage, a feminist analysis and the experience of this struggle in the US. On the panel will be present-e-s :

If this does not solve the question of capitalist oppression on our lives, these claims will enable us, collectively, mobilize and get us the minimum that we must!

A 9 December of national strike, chapter I

Le Front Commun et la Fédération des Syndicats de l’Enseignement (FSE-CSQ) avait promis une journée de grève générale pour ce mercredi 9 dIt iscembre, and they kept their word! According to official sources, it is more 434 000 Workers who do not return to work today.

Alors qu’à Québec plusieurs milliers d’enseignant.es affilié.es at la FSE-CSQ défilaient dans les rues en matinée, à Laval une bannière était installIt ise sur l’autoroute 15 par les enseignant.es des cIt isgeps Lionel-Groulx et Montmorency. Du coté de Montréal, les membres de la Fédération Autonome de l’Enseignement (FAE) It isrigeaient un campement devant les bureaux du Ministère de l’Enseignement du Sport et des Loisirs où ils comptent rester durant les trois jours que durera leur grève. Pendant que certain.es organisateurs et organisatrices prIt isparaient le campement, un peu plus haut dans le quartier Cbetween-Sud des milliers d’enseignant.es, d’It istudiant.es et de travailleurs et travailleuses venu.es en solidaritIt is, en plus d’un contingent du SITT-IWW, se rejoignaient au Parc des Faubourgs pour entamer une manifestation monstre.

Notons qu’outre ses quatre actions, les seules à avoir été répertoriées au moment dIt iscrire l’article, des piquets de grève étaient organisIt iss devant la majorité des établissements des ministères touchIt iss et ce, partout au Québec.

This training will be given in French. The whisper translation will not be available, we prioritize the training to be followed in a language mastered by the participants are. On the other hand, an English version will be offered to current year 2015.

This one-two day, aims to provide the tools to organize their workplace through the establishment of an organizing committee, through direct action and solidarity unionism. Unnecessary expense but no money for the user services? What's going on there at the Patro Le Prevost,?

Working for a body of last resort

It is now over a year since I work for a nonprofit, a non-profit organization, a vital organization for society, or at least, a pan of this company.

My colleagues and I are part of a body said last resort, que je ne nommerai pas ici car je n’en vois pas l’intérêt. Mon discours est applicable à bien des organismes œuvrant dans un autre domaine que le mien, et c’est par expérience que je l’affirme ici.

Je suis entourée de collègues passionné-e-s par leur métier, de gens ayant à cœur un certain bien-être et qui travaillent dans l’urgence tous les jours de l’année, without exception, et cela pour un salaire ridicule. Certain-e-s d’entre eux et elles, si ce n’est pas la majorité, cumulent 2 or 3 jobs pour boucler (ou pas d’ailleurs) leurs fins de mois… quand je vous parlais de personnes passionnées, je ne vous mentais pas car de mes collègues, bon nombre sont là depuis plus de 10, 15, 20 years !
