Press release – 1er May 2015 You ITS-IWW

Thousands of workers from the base showed, blocked and disrupted the economy throughout the day from May 1 2015. We were very many-its to oppose the Liberal government project and challenge the austerity measures that it hopes to impose. May 1st International Day of Workers' Struggle 2015 was a great success.

Many highways have been blocked, dozens of disruptive and blocking actions were carried out such as occupations of banks and construction sites. Several direct actions were also made the night before May Day. The Industrial Workers Union/Industrial workers of the world, from Montreal (SIT/ IWW) took part in this day of combat by multiplying the actions and disturbances. From the morning, the SITT-IWW Montreal has blocked the municipal services of the city of Montreal in support of blue-collar workers in struggle, an economic block was also made by blocking the parking control service. SITT-IWW then marched alongside dozens of social groups and unions at the downtown protest of the Coalition Opposing the Pricing and Privatization of Social Services (« Coalition Main Rouge »).

During the afternoon, the SITT-IWW organized a strike zone with a union BBQ, in addition to blocking Brébeuf, the street where our offices are located. Ensuite, we joined the family demonstration in the neighborhoods which descended the city from Villeray and marched alongside social groups on strike as well as with the teachers against the rise (PCLH) , before finally joining the anti-capitalist demonstration of May Day organized by the CLAC.

THE STRUGGLE CONTINUES ! . This day was only a premise. This was not an isolated moment, but a step that is part of a larger perspective ; that of the struggle of the working class against employers and capitalism. This day demonstrates the strength and capacity for self-organization of workers. If what was done for a day was multiplied on the scale of a week, even a month, no government, no repression could resist our struggle for our emancipation. The will to put an end to our exploitation will not stop in this 2 May ! On the contrary, the struggle will continue and intensify. The political class and the economic elite may be worried. We will change the rules of the game and intend to destroy their class privileges, bring down capitalism and the polluting society, patriarchal, colonial and racist which characterizes it.

Their repressive policies cannot kill our dreams of a fairer and more equal society.. To the conservative slogan "Equal work, equal pay! », our banners must oppose the revolutionary slogan "Down with wage labor! ». The struggle continues ! See you soon, in the street.

The SITT / IWW Montreal

Indeed, depuis de nombreuses années, we are told that we must tighten their belts, the government must save the economy, he must repay the debt sacrosanct and that we absolutely must take austerity measures. During this time, it is in our living conditions they cut.
Political parties, Quebec and Ottawa, are competing to see who the most cut in social programs or privatize most. Governments are in the service of the economic elite and applies anti-social and destructive policies. The different cuts of government have an impact on the services and the quality of public services.
But everywhere resistance is organized. We will not let the governments and the employers impose their anti-social measures. Gone are the days when a minority is enriched on the back of a majority of increasingly poor. Our unity gives us a radical response to the employer's side logic. It must go by amplifying.

An injury to one is an injury to all

Press release – Action Radio-Canada 30 april 2015

The SITT / IWW Montreal
tower blocks
CBC

– Montréal, 30 april 2015 – Tonight, Industrial Union of Workers – Montréal (IWW / HIS), blocking entrances to the Radio-Canada tower in Montreal. This action in solidarity with Radio Canada es worker is part of the movement against austerity measures and in the campaign for a social strike on May 1 2015.

The SITT-IWW refuses discourse and program cuts and impoverishment of workers', students and students and unemployed.

Since many years, we are told that we must tighten their belts, the government must save the economy, he must repay the debt sacrosanct and that we absolutely must take austerity measures. During this time, it is in our living conditions they cut. While big companies and wealthy of our society are increasing their profits, we, the majority of the population, it was difficult to make ends meet. Political parties, Quebec and Ottawa, are competing to see who the most cut in social programs or privatize most. Governments are in the service of the economic elite and applies anti-social and destructive policies

The different cuts of government have an impact on the services and the quality of public services. So, for workers and Radio Canada workers it actually represents thousands of job cuts and the destruction of their working conditions. More, we also everyone concerned, because these cuts are just the announcement of what happens : massive cut in social services, dismissals in the public and private.

In short the lives of more and more difficult for all workers everywhere, but the resistance is growing. We will not let the governments and the employers impose their anti-social measures. Gone are the days when a minority is enriched on the back of a majority of increasingly poor. Our unity gives us a radical response to the employer's side logic.

It must go by amplifying.

Montreal, April 29, 2015

On the eve of the International Day of Workers, the SITT-IWW Montreal seeks to demonstrate its support of fellow workers in the Philippines. Union militants and workers in the Philippines continue to face repression from international capitalists and their accomplices, the government of President Benigno Aquino and local bosses. We strongly denounce this repression and we send all our support and solidarity to the Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) union, to its national federations and regional formations, and to local unions, as well as to all progressive militants and workers in the Philippines.

Our thoughts go out to you on the occasion of the May1st celebrations, and we stand by your side in this struggle for the advancement of rights, of well-being, and of labour conditions for all workers in the Philippines.

In solidarity!

Conference in Quebec City on May 1 !

Radicalization of the May 1st 2015 Strike

To read this article in French, click here.

A phantom haunts the province of Quebec. It is the phantom of the General Strike. Since 2012, our elites have known that the working class, the students, and all those who continue to decry injustice and repression have the power to take to the streets and impose their legitimacy in the face of the State. Despite this dread, the high-priests of capitalism, and especially those preaching its liberal vision, can not hold back from waging an open war against everything that isn’t merchandise, against everything that isn’t financially valuable. From budget cuts to over-arming police forces, and from underpaid jobs to public insults against the poor and the exploited, everything leads one to believe that Quebec is now the foreground of unbridled capitalism. This neo-liberal paradise, protected by the State and its minions, ruins our lives and those of our families and friends, quashes what little is left of our liberty, spits in the faces of those most hard on their luck and on the misery of its own creation.

We have long ceased to believe in the regulatory capacity of this system. By destroying itself, it will destroy us too. Each new day we are reminded of this programmed failure: environmental disasters, increased inequality, the deterioration of working conditions, institutional racism, systemic corruption of our political system, and harassment of women in their workplaces or at school. Generally speaking, it is all forms of domination that are dangerously increasing, pushing the most exploited and dominated to the breaking point, all in order to install our elites on a too-comfortable pedestal.

This is why we call the rebellious among us to insurrection. We hope that the spring will bring out the most angry, those who are disgusted at the system, in the streets and in actions. Because apathy just isn’t enough, we firmly believe in our common capacity to create a better world. More than a simple timely struggle against austerity, we see on the horizon the premises of a social war, of which the 2012 strike was only a beginning. Each government, left or right, has tried time and again to impose their rotten economic and societal concepts upon us. A single day of strikes is not enough to push back a government which dearly protects the financial assets of the most dominant in society. We believe that a global revolt of all society must emerge during the spring. This revolt must be planned on the long term: in Quebec as in Europe, there are too many recent examples that demonstrate the futility of punctual and singular actions against governments that are now used to and prepared for social discontent.

Against capitalism and liberalism, we reaffirm our right to manage our own lives, whether the people who rule us like it or not. Our daily lives belong to us, our cities too. We firmly believe that capitalism must be erased from Quebec. In this goal, we will always be in solidarity with those who struggle, and always at odds with those who remain resigned and prostrate. We will be alongside workers and students in their struggles, and we will oppose all police brutality with working class solidarity. In the streets, in our workplaces and schools, in our neighborhoods, we are here to struggle and help.

Let us not fear our utopias!

Let us dare to overthrow the established order!
